Made in Canada, 16-inch Single-Ply Ash Tunable Bodhran
Our 16-inch-diameter, six-inch-deep tunable bodhran features a natural finish with a Celtic-themed or solid-colour ribbon trim in black, green, and brown. The Shaw Percussion bodhrans are constructed of a solid-wood, steam-bent, single-ply ash shell with a specially treated and taped goatskin head. Our keyless finger-tuning system allows for quick and easy tuning. Our standard bodhrans are built without a crossbar or arm cut-out to allow freedom of movement for modern playing styles, but these custom options are available upon request.
A Secret Hand-Curing Process for the coveted “played in sound.”
Shaw Percussion uses a unique curing process to create a supple and long-lasting goatskin drumhead for our bodhrans. This gives them that prized played-in sound. Celtic Drumming for the World Stage and Your Living Room
The Bodhrán, or Bodhráin (pronounced bow-ron), is an Irish frame drum with roots dating back to pre-Christian Celtic societies. It is considered a frame drum, one in which the drumhead width exceeds its depth. When Irish traditional music re-emerged as a world force in the 1960s, the bodhrán became a fixture on stage and has been further popularized by bands such as The Chieftains, Great Big Sea, and Kila. The bodhran is not limited to one style of music. Modern players like Guido Pluschke and Rolf Wagles are exploring the bodhran’s use in many music styles, including jazz, pop, and rock.
