Made in Canada, 14-inch Ash Tunable Bodhran
Our 14-inch-diameter, six-inch-deep tunable bodhran features a natural finish and a choice of Celtic-themed or solid-colour ribbon trim in black, brown, or green. The Shaw Percussion bodhrans are constructed from a solid-wood, steam-bent ash shell with a specially treated and taped goatskin head. The keyless finger-tuning system allows for quick and easy tuning. No tools are required. Our standard bodhrans are built without a crossbar or arm cut-out to allow freedom of movement for the modern playing style, but these custom options are available upon request.
A Secret Hand-Curing Process for the coveted “played in sound.”
Shaw Percussion uses a unique curing process to create a supple and long-lasting goatskin drumhead for our bodhrans. This gives them that prized played-in sound. When paired with the tuning system, our bodhrans will offer outstanding versatility. Watch this video to hear the benefits of our steam-bent shell and head-curing process.
Celtic Drumming for the World Stage and Your Living Room
The Bodhrán, or Bodhráin (pronounced bow-ron), is an Irish frame drum with roots dating back to pre-Christian Celtic societies. It is considered a frame drum in which the drumhead width is greater than its depth. When Irish traditional music re-emerged as a world force in the 1960s, the bodhrán became a fixture on stage and has been further popularized by bands such as The Chieftains, Great Big Sea, and Kila. The bodhran is not limited to one style of music. Modern players like Guido Pluschke and Rolf Wagles are exploring the bodhran’s use in many music styles, including jazz, pop, and rock.
