Used throughout Asia in various spiritual traditions, singing bowls are given different voices based on their metal composition and size. The bottom of the bowl is held in the hand or rested on a surface. The sound is created by striking the bowl or by running the stick around the rim of the bowl (similar to the technique used with crystal glasses). The sides and rim of the bowl vibrate to produce the clear and distinctive sound. Singing bowls are also called Tibetan singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, Rin gongs, Medicine bowls and Suzu gongs and are used globally for meditation, relaxation, healthcare, personal well-being and religious practice.
