Qilaut
One of North America’s largest indigenous hoop drums, the qilaut (also called a chauyak or kilaut), produces a deep, rich sound.
Our Shaw Percussion qilaut is 24-inches in diameter and made with a sturdy steam-bent oak shell. Our qilaut is covered with an easily tunable goatskin drumhead. At only 3-inches deep, this surprisingly light and versatile drum is a great addition to any frame drum collection.
The qilaut can be played with your hand, with a light stick or a mallet. With each, you’ll experience your qilaut’s sound differently.
In Inuit culture, the qilaut or Inuit Wind Drum creates the heartbeat of mother earth and is believed to have healing powers and to help guide people on their paths.
